Classroom inventory

While doing the Classroom Inventory I was able to learn that the teachers in the school have the access to a bunch of technology that is not used as much as I thought it would be. I learned that most of the technology in the classroom is basic, but when the students go to computer lab there are many programs and games that they can use.

I also learned that a lot of lessons don't need technology. I'm in first grade and there are lots of things that they could use technology but i don't think that it actually improves their learning. I think that there are still lessons that can be improved with technology but I realized that less lessons then I expected are improved by technology.

For this assignment I will be using a standard from the Utah 5th Grade Social Studies core curriculum. In this project I will be able to help students come to a deep knowledge of the Underground railroad, and what the conditions were for those traveling on the underground railroad.

The Pedagogy that i will be using in this lesson is that in the information they will see on each of the information bubbles that pop up will make it seem like they are actuallyy part of teh trail, I'm going to try to reinact the problems they will be facing, the condions they are living in and the feelings of being scared and alone and lost.

The technology that I will use is Google Earth, this is a very effective method to use for this unit because the students will be able to see the distance that will be traveled, on the tour I will be able to guide their learning through information that they will be more likely to remember as they go though this experience. This will make the learning very personal, relevant and fun to learn about the underground rail road.

Falling for Rapunzel

As you can see in our wonderful storyboard, we are going to tell the tale of "Falling for Rapunzel." We did amazing work on the claymation!

The content for our lesson is the following first grade standard:
Standard 1 Oral Language-Students develop language for the purpose of effectively communicating through listening, speaking, viewing, and presenting.

Objective 2 Develop language through viewing media and presenting.
b. Use a variety of formats (e.g., show and tell, drama, sharing of books and personal writings, choral readings, informational reports, retelling experiences and stories in sequence) in presenting with various forms of media.

The pedagogy we are using is a combination Fractured Fairytale and Poetry Interpretation taken from the book "Falling For Rapunzel" by Leah Wilcox. This is good fit for the content we are teaching because it helps the students develop lanugage in a very fun way.

The technology we are using is PhotoStory. We will be using it to put together our images and the language used in the book. This technology works wonderfully with our content and pedagogy because it really enables us to do more than just read a book or create a book, we can use media/technology to really make this creation come alive!Stay tuned for the finished product. Story Board

The content of my Science lesson is hereditary traits, the difference between inherited and learned traits.

In order to teach this lesson effectively the class would explore what they thought using the Kidspiration program and then as a class we would discuss and even experiment with the things they are unsure about (like the rolling of the tongue)

Kidspiration helps the kids to explore their thoughts on the content and helps to lead them to understand which of the 2 categories the traits fit into. This is a useful tool to help teach it in a way the students will remember it and teach it affectively.
